Newsletter 4 – October 2006
Hi Everyone,
Another month has flown and every weekend seems to be a bit different.
We've had night runs, Club meets and DA's, water hazards and a new hill
challenge for you to try! I'm going to take a few minutes here to give you
a flavour of what's been going on.
Extreme Night Run (9th Sept)
With lots of trepidation we held our first formal night run here at the
Springs4x4. (We've also had lots of informal ones too!).
Suddenly the Park seemed to be full of Land Rovers. Prior to the run most
of the drivers and navvies came to the Stables for a large steak dinner. I
think there was method in their madness as I'm sure the ones that had eaten
prior to the run had better traction than those that hadn't!
The night started with a trip up Walkerbout. There was a few heart
stopping moments for the people spectating as not everyone took the right line
up the rocks and there were a few rocking cars. The Mogrover, who took up
the rear, as expected cruised up. I have included a small picture gallery
below of some of the moments...
It's our intent to make this a regular feature at the Park. We will
not take more than 8 vehicles and the next run date will be on Saturday 4th
November. You need a minimum of two in the car. After all,
someone has to do the rock stacking for the driver! So if you're
interested give me a ring and we'll add you to the list on a first come
first served basis.
The True Toy (Troy) Story
There once was a boy called Troy
Who decided to take out his Toy
With a bang and a crash
And a terrible splash................
Oh Bugger! A damming experience! Do I need to
say more??

Woops
Canyon Climb
Well... Canyon Climb has now been open for nearly 4 weeks.
To date we have had only 3 vehicles make it and interesting watching it
makes. Remember anyone who is going to make the attempt...once you're
in, there's only one way out!
Tracks
We've been busy again. We've added two more tracks to
our collection with plans to do another two or three this month.
Bruiser Climb and Floyds Stroll are both off Girlie Gulley. Bruiser is
a steep rock ascent or descent with some decent steps and holes to try out
your suspension travel. We've had some feedback on this track, which
is classified very difficult and that perhaps it should be regraded.
It's definitely not Canyon Climb material but maybe somewhere in between
perhaps? Maybe a new grade... "Very Bloody Difficult"? I await
your comments! Floyds stroll is moderate to hard and is a pleasant
drive with articulation through one of our gulleys. However, I still
managed to break another CV on this one and then had to unretire the Pajero
to pull me out. Thanks Toni!!! Any one who is prepared to show
me how to sensibly change a CV earns a free day in the Park. I have a
feeling that this is a skill I'm going to need.

Beer O'Clock Challenge Track
A new challenge but a fun one. We have made a new hill
climb on the campsite escarpment just so everyone that's here can watch you
succeed.....or not! It will be a closed track except for Saturday
afternoons at 4pm. Then, anyone that wants to have a go has to donate
a stubby or equivalent to have a crack at getting up it! You will only
have three attempts and there'll be a locked and unlocked class.
Standard type vehicles only. Winners will share the beer!
Jordans Birthday Bash
Our little girl Jordan was 7 last week so we decided to
invite a number of small and large friends to her party. Toni made
nibbles for a late lunch and the kids played birthday games (pass the parcel
etc) at the rear. Cakes were cut (Toni makes them too), and then we
took them out on the Ute to experience the Park in their own chauffeur
driven vehicle! They had a ball! Back to the house and then a
BBQ. Sound good hey? Well we're quite happy to do this for you
too! Whether you're young or old we can give you a party with a
difference! Talk to us about what you'd like to do!
A big thankyou must also go to Tuff Tracks 4x4 Club who, when they found out
it was Jordan's birthday, gave her the most beautiful bouquet of flowers!
Halloween (Oct 28th/29th)
Come and try something different for Halloween! Fancy dress at the Stables Ghoul Cavern. Prizes for the scariest kid and
adult. A Halloween feast with kids Halloween games.
We have plenty of more ideas for fun and games at the Springs 4x4 so watch the
next newsletter for more detail. Bookings are required for all of the above and
will be taken on a first come first served basis. As you all know, places are
limited here on the Park…so ring early!
Thankyou
A big thankyou to all the Clubs and individuals that visited us in September.
Without you we couldn't be here! Also a large thanks to Mark
Elliott-Nelson who has been faithfully GPS'ing the Park and all the tracks.
We hope to have a new map soon!
Hope to see you here soon
Keep on trackin!
Best Wishes
Iain, Toni and Jordan
