Newsletter 4 – November 2006

Hi Everyone,

Another fun packed month has passed.  Perhaps the best of all is that we had 120ml of rain and this has greened everything up.  The dams are full and the tracks are dust free!

EFS to Sponsor Springs 4x4

More good news!  EFS have made a decision to sponsor the Springs 4x4 recovery vehicle.  They will be raising the vehicle by 80mm and professionally installing new shocks, extended shackles, leaves, bushes and steering damper.  I'm looking forward to having more articulation and to be able to mix it with you guys even better!

Enhanced 4WD Suspension is a quality driven product that has been proven in 4WD competitions throughout Australia & pushed to the limits by 4WD enthusiasts around the world.

EFS Suspension is not just a Shock Absorber but a complete integrated suspension package of Springs, Shocks & Components that work together to give quality on-road handling characteristics & greater off road ability.

As soon as we have it installed watch out for some extended pics!!

Night Warrior Run 4/5 November

On the Wednesday prior, we had a full complement for the run, and then it started raining and the phone started ringing!  Sorry can't make it!  By Saturday we had 5 cars left!  One way of looking at this is that at least you get the people who are keen!  By Saturday evening we were down to three!  One had rolled on the Beer O'clock track and had sustained considerable damage and another had decided to back out.  At this point I thought why bother?  It was still raining and the tracks were as slippery as a humpbacks hide.  Then the afternoon came and the rain stopped.  4-5 hours of no rain and to hell with it, we're back on!

We left at around 8pm and started on the rock tracks behind the house.  Great fun even though she started pouring again!  Down from the rocks to pick up our third vehicle and off to Brisbane Way.  For those of you who know the tracks even on the trip to Brisbane Way, (via Highway Hill and Rangie), we still had to recover vehicles even on these moderate tracks.  Down on to Brisbane Way at about 10.30pm.  Expectations were that it would take some 40 minutes to get down this and then off to something different.  How wrong can you be?  Well, we were close (!) we eventually got off the track at around 4am the following morning!  I lost 4 wheel drive about 1/3rd of the way in and had to use the winch probably about 40 times!  Ben and Shane in another Cruiser toed everything and gave me some heart stopping moments!  Our best competitor was Matt in his Jeep.  He perhaps did not use all the traditional routes, (for example up an escape way and back down on the same way to get a better line!) but made it out the other end in an exemplary manner!

So all in all, we did two and a half tracks in 7 hours!  I know we all had a great time even though some stages were frustrating and we all definitely learnt something.   What was perhaps best was we all made it out with minimal damage, (one tire Ian, small rear dent Matt, nothing for Ben).  Having done this in atrocious weather and conditions, well done everyone.... roll on the next one!

Beer O'clock Run

This "notorious" (!) run has been open for all of this month and not one vehicle has got up it.  Not from lack of trying I may add!  We've had a few heart stopping moments but everyone has recovered from a precarious position to return to earth on 4 wheels.  All except one.  Their story started bad and finished worse.  The guys had decided to come down on the Saturday for the Night run and to get some pictures of their newly completed "Comp car".  Just finished that day and never photographed!  On their journey to the Springs 4x4 they got caught in an accident and had to wait 2 hours whilst some poor soul was cut out of his car.  Then they took the wrong turning and ended up going the wrong way for 45 minutes.  They eventually got to the Springs 4x4 late afternoon.  Very keen to have a go they saw that the Ipswich Club was trying the Beer O'clock run.  Nothing ventured nothing gained they thought why not?  Let's have a go!..Up the Hill...coming to a stop...front end starts coming round...rolling not once but twice...large crashing sound and vehicle arrives upside down at the bottom of the Hill.  No injuries...smashed windscreen, bonnet, doors, wheel and coil spring off.  Bugger!  Not a good start to their weekend........

I'll post some pics when I have received them.  Good luck in the QLD Winch challenge guys!

Tracks

We've made only one addition this month and that is Rock Hoppa.  This has extended Walkerbout right across the face of the front of the property and has some interesting rock ledges and gulleys to climb.  We have plans to add a further two at the rear of the property this month.  If anyone wants to come and help and get a good deal plus name the track then give me a ring and we'll arrange a date.  If not....I'll do it myself!!

October Thankyou

A big thankyou to all the Clubs and individuals that visited us in October.  We hope you all had some fun and will be back to visit us!  Remember to think about what you are doing as a family/Club for Xmas or New Year and perhaps consider us for your stay!

Hope to see you here soon

Keep on trackin!

Best Wishes

Iain, Toni and Jordan
