Newsletter 8 – March 2007
Hi All,
Another month bites the dust. Thanks everyone who saw us in February
and I'll now give you a short update on the month's activities....but first of
all...
Birthday Bash
For those of you who have seen the front page of the website you'll know that
the Springs 4x4 is advertising a Birthday Bash at the end of the month, (March
31st). This Bash is for an unidentified member of the the Springs 4x4!
Interestingly, the date does seem to be one I am very familiar with, but as I am
not meant to know about it don't tell Toni or Jordan! I know that we have
a live band joining us and that we'll be holding it down at the house, very much
like our NYE celebration. This is so that all those people who want to get
some sleep can do so without being disturbed by us rowdies at the front of the
property! The party is as much for you guys as us, so anyone and everyone
is invited. We'll also be doing some of the Competitions during the day
followed by Beer O'clock so there'll be plenty of action and photo opportunities
going on around the place! If you want to come remember this will be by
booking only as we expect to be full. So hurry up and get on the phone and
reserve your place!
February Night Run
We held our night run mid February. As normal about a day from the run
we had a number of last minute cancellations so we ended up with only 3 cars.
However, this didn't seem to matter as all who took part had a ball. I've
shown you a few of the pics below:
Perhaps the worst car to come out of it was the Rangie. He has now found a
new kind of tree on the Park which I will call the "Ironbark can opener".
Whilst going through one particular track which had a nasty piece of
articulation, Matt must have touched a tree and it decided it didn't like his
roof welds... so one by one it removed them. Funny how you can't open your
doors when the roof shape has changed! Apart from a few odd scrapes, the
only other damage was the retirement of two Muddies to the tyre heaven in the
sky. So if you want a bit of excitement come and join us on the next run
in May...
RACQ
We had offered the Park for use to the RACQ for some road testing. I
was expecting some tough new 4WD's to come but no, along came 4 brand new
different manufacturers SUV's. We want to try out their capability off
road said the testers. OK, so I quickly had to think of some tracks where
they could go. I took them to a small hill climb. Wow...did they
have a problem, no height, no articulation and constant 4 wheel drive...I don't
think so! Suddenly you realise the benefits of having a "real" 4wd!
These are definately not the toys to take off road. Gravel great...but
anything that has the word bump in it...forget it. The RACQ members issue
will be out in April and it'll be interesting to see the testers views.
Toyo
I am very happy to announce that the Springs 4x4 has a new sponsor, Toyo Tyre
& Rubber Australia. Toyo are now sponsoring the Park and vehicle.
They have now supplied their new Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain, (35x13.5x15) and
these have been fitted to the Cruiser. In the next few weeks I'll give
them a good run out. First impressions are that they are going to be a big
asset.

I've already had some fun using my grinder on the guards!
Finally...
We hope you all have a great Easter and hope to see you here soon.
Keep on trackin!
Best Wishes
Iain, Toni and Jordan
