Newsletter 7 – February 2007
Hi Everyone,
Back on schedule with the Newsletter after last month! It seemed to
take ages after New Years to get back on track again and no sooner we were than
Australia Day was with us!
Australia Day 2007
The long weekend started early with quite a lot of people arriving on the
Thursday. We had planned most events to occur on the Saturday letting
people get settled in on the Friday and enjoying Australia Day doing whatever
they wanted. We saw quite a few campers just putting there feet up and
relaxing with the inevitable stubby in their hand! Flags abounded on the
campsite, on cars, trees and tent poles...there was no problem here flying the
National flag!
On Saturday we put on a sausage sizzle up at the house. Quite a few
joined us and it was a great way to meet your fellow fourbies! This was
followed by the Beer O'clock run at 4pm. I think everyone turned out to
watch this. We had a number of different vehicles having a go at the
Hill....some not going far... others...well I'll tell you in a minute. To
everyone that had a go irrespective of whether you made it or not... well done.
If we didn't have people with a bit of spirit then we wouldn't have had all the
fun that we did! To two other guys, Brett Phillips and Peter Egberts..you
were AWESOME! Both of them made the top, Brett seemed to cruise up there
in his Patrol and Peter in a Disco bounced the last 5 metres. I was
surprised not to see engine heads flying out, both of them giving their
cars a real large right boot. As I recollect they both did it on
their first attempt. Anyway this puts up the total to now 10 guys having
successfully completed the hill. We had a small break whilst waiting for
various people to have a go. Someone brought out a radio controlled car
and attempted the hill. The crowd was treated to some spectacular roll
overs with the small vehicle making it on some occasions at least halfway up the
hill! Brilliant..thanks.
After what was a good hour and a half entertainment we finished the
afternoons Beer O'clock with the kids all putting their lockers in and having a
race up Beer O'clock... and as can be seen, some forgetting what their legs are
for!
Barely 90 minutes later I came down to run a tag a long night drive. We
must have started with something like 15 cars which was a great effort!
Unfortunately, I then decided to leave the campsite via Fig Tree Lane and we
spent nearly an hour recovering some vehicles up the track. Sorry everyone
that had to wait! However, after the disastrous start things went more
smoothly and those that remained I think had a ball of a time. The
pictures certainly seem to suggest so!
Toni and I hope you all had a great time over the weekend. An
interesting bit of feedback for us was that a lot of people suggested at the end
of the weekend that we should have run the above activities on Australia Day
itself. The reasoning for this was that by the time everyone had a go at
either the Beer O'clock or the night run then there was an awful lot to talk
about to their fellow campers. Unfortunately because it was the end of the
weekend that didn't occur. We will definitely bare this in mind for the
next long weekend!
Tracks
Two more tracks have been added to the Park, (Gash Climb & Tonto's trek), and
we have more planned to come. Anyone who is interested in helping out
please give me a ring and we'll do you a "deal"!

Please give me at least two days notice if you intend to have a
